How to Choose a Marketing Agency in Dubai: 10 Questions That Expose the Pretenders

By The Paid Lab · July 2026 · 8 min read

Dubai might have more marketing agencies per square kilometre than anywhere on earth. Some are exceptional. Many are two freelancers, a Canva subscription, and a confident sales deck. Since agencies all sound identical in the pitch meeting ("data-driven", "ROI-focused", "growth partners"), here are ten questions where the answers actually differ.

1. "Who owns the ad account — you or us?"

The only acceptable answer: you own everything. Ad account, pixel data, creative assets, page access. Agencies that run ads from their own accounts hold your performance history hostage when you leave. This single question eliminates a surprising number of Dubai agencies.

2. "What exactly happens in the first 30 days?"

Vague answer ("we'll optimize your campaigns") = vague work. You want to hear a sequence: audit, tracking verification, strategy document with KPIs, creative testing plan. Something like Diagnose → Hypothesize → Test → Scale — a named process they can walk you through step by step.

3. "What metric will you report as success?"

If the answer is reach, impressions, engagement, or even clicks — walk away. The only honest success metrics are revenue-adjacent: cost per qualified lead, cost per purchase, ROAS, pipeline created. Ask to see a sample monthly report before signing.

4. "What's your exit clause?"

Confident agencies offer monthly or 90-day terms. Twelve-month lock-ins with penalty clauses tell you how they retain clients — and it isn't results.

5. "Who will actually work on my account?"

The person pitching you is often not the person managing your campaigns. Ask to meet the actual account manager, and ask how many accounts they handle. Twenty-five accounts per person means your business gets 90 minutes of attention a week.

6. "Can you show me a result for a business like mine?"

Not logos — numbers. "We took a Dubai fashion brand from 1.2× to 4.8× ROAS in 60 days" is an answer. A slide of client logos is not. Browse our case studies to see the format you should demand from anyone.

7. "What happens when something doesn't work?"

Everything fails sometimes — every honest marketer knows this. The tell is whether they have a systematic answer (kill rules, iteration cadence, what gets tested next) or whether they promise it simply won't happen.

8. "How do you charge — and what's NOT included?"

Flat fee, percentage of ad spend, or hybrid — each is defensible, but surprise exclusions aren't. Is creative production included? Landing pages? How many revisions? Get the boundaries in writing. (Our answer: flat management fee, creative included, no hidden markups.)

9. "How often will we actually talk?"

A monthly PDF is not communication. You want a named point of contact, a WhatsApp or Slack line for urgent items, and a proper monthly review where numbers are explained in plain language — the kind where you understand every slide.

10. "Why should we NOT work with you?"

The most revealing question on the list. Honest agencies have a real answer — "we're not the cheapest," "we don't do organic social," "we need 60 days before judging results." Pretenders say "no reason at all." Self-awareness correlates with honesty after the contract is signed, too.

The pattern behind all ten questions: good agencies sell you a system and honest expectations. Weak agencies sell you confidence and lock you in before you can tell the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a freelancer better than an agency in Dubai?

A great freelancer beats a mediocre agency. The limits are bandwidth and breadth — one person rarely covers media buying, creative, copy, and landing pages at a high level simultaneously.

How long should I give a new agency before judging results?

60–90 days for a fair verdict, with checkpoints: tracking fixed and strategy delivered by day 30, early signal by day 60, clear trend by day 90.
